Here is Koriah Azmeren, a figure in the licensed Pathfinder line.  I sculpted her earlier this year. [EDIT: I finished sculpting her in May 2014, but Reaper released the figure in January 2015.]

I posted a Works-in-Progress thread about her, so please check it out to read more and see the steps, if you are interested:

50188 Sleeping Beauty "Waiting for prince charming"

Alright so I finally made time to take some photos of my beauty. I must give a big shout out to all the forum members who helped me even those who helped cheer me on in the WIP thread. Thank you all. The sheer fabric was a tough one for me and I think she looks a bit better in hand than the photos but alas that is typically the case.

Here is the link to the WIP with some photos that show the sheer effect a bit better for anyone who may have missed it.http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/60313-marsyas-first-attempt-at-sheer-cloth-50188-sleeping-beauty-warning-lots-of-pics/?hl=%2Bsleeping+%2Bbeauty

And here are a few pictures of the finished piece with a few of Reapers Critters as well. I plan to bring her to ReaperCon even if just to show Rhonda Bender as her class at Gen Con inspired me to attempt the sheer cloth, and of course for her critiques.

You can kinda see the hedgehog I hid on her base in this shot but only his snout.

Once again Thank you all for your input and help and I look forward to meeting some of you in just a few days.

Sir Conlan

I've played around a bit with NMM on a couple of minis, but earlier this month I decided to sit down and really make an effort at it.  For my test subject eager volunteer I chose Sir Conlan.  He seems a good mini to practice NMM metal on since he has most of the upper body armor but not a lot of fiddly bits to worry about.  Those of you interested in the boring bits already dropped by my WIP so we'll just skip to the pictures.

Sir Conlan Front.jpg Sir Conlan Back.jpg

I know one of the reasons people do NMM is for photography and it looks like it's about time for me to start reading up on the shutterbug section.  Just for fun I snapped another pic against grey fabric under direct lighting, and then compared that to how it looked back in my WIP.

Photographing details aside, he's a nice little tabletop dude that can now join the fun in Undermountain.

Grenadier warlock ("Wizards" set #2001G, from 1980)

One weekend each year, about twelve friends and I hold our own private gaming convention, by renting a vacation-house out of town and spending the days gaming (board, card, role-playing).

For this year's convention in February, I offered to run a little "painting workshop", since one of the guys was about to receive his box of Reaper's Bones 2 Kickstarter figures and he wanted some advice and practice.  Another one of the guys brought some old lead figures by Grenadier, so I chose a wizard and spent a couple of hours painting him.

The sculpt is crude by today's standards -- what is that cloak doing, anyway? -- but I like the character.

He was the "Warlock" in a ten-figure "Wizards" boxed set (#2001).  Check out the images at this website:

http://dndlead.com/Grenadier/2000s.htm

I started with a black basecoat and worked up.

I gave him fiery eyes because I thought they would look more imposing (and easier to paint) than normal eyes.  I also painted a magical glow on his raised right hand and glowing eyes in the skull on his staff.

Here is the result!

RBG0301 - Helsvakt Horde

This has been a labor of love and angst.  I in a moment of incredible stupidity

decided to do ALL the Helsvakt Horde at one time.  Not realizing how much

work it was going to be, and how much I would need to learn to complete this

project.  They became quite the learning experience for me.  Next time I jump

in the pool, I will check for sharks, and how deep it is.

Excellent project, fantastic sculpts, lots of surprises, and a lot of potential

to learn a lot about minatures.  I recommend these to anyone up for a real

challenge.

As always, comments, and critiques are welcome, and I would love hearing back

from you as to what you think.

So here is my interpretation of the Helsvakt Horde:

(It'll be in two parts, since I can't up load all the photos at one time).

Here is part one:

Well, when faced with the stiff competition which ReaperCon brings, one is forced to go big!  And that is exactly what I hope to do with this!

So, the plan is to take this beautiful old Sandra Garrity mini, remove both of her hands, and replace them with hands holding a violin and bow from Reaper's musical instruments pack.  She will be holding the violin by its neck in her left hand and the bow in her right hand.  A little songbird will be perched on the end of her bow so that they are looking at each other, and the pair will be standing in the center of a garden path leading to a little bench and stained glass window/painting (haven't decided which yet).  The window/painting will be flanked by Reaper's discontinued Pillar of Good (also by Sandra Garrity) which I cut in half to take advantage of both sides of the pillar.  On the stone walls, I plan to have a couple of hanging flower baskets, and the whole thing will feature flowers, flowers everywhere!

This next week promises to be pretty busy for me, but I should hopefully start making some major progress on the base soon, and the mini will arrive in just a few days!

Department of Aquisitions :: Field Report [open]

I decided to open a thread for all to use to report your latest mini purchases so we might oooo and aaaah at your shrewd bargaining or clever haggling (assuming your FLGS allows such a thing).

Obviously, this means I made a purchase last night at my Not-so Local but Friendly enough Game Store.

Field Report :: Tuesday, June 4th, 2014 :: Millennium Games, Rochester, NY

I approached the wall of Bones with a smattering of DHL expecting to find little I didn't already have.  Immediately, I find the Ogre, Kagunk, Chieftain of his clan.  Unfortunately, I had to save money somewhere for the first kickstarter and passed on the Mind Your Manors ogre and crew.

As I pulled Kagunk from the wall I spot right behind him, as if hiding, was Mr. Bones.  Might be I will make a second Mr. Bones II from him.  Might not.  We'll see.

Then it was off to the clearance table at the back of the store.  I always find something.  Hmm, it was light on minis this trip.  I find the white box the minis are usually in and find little of interest until I find a troll.  A $20 troll from Privateer Press, a Pyre Troll, and he's half off.  WOOT!  Wait?  Pyre?  Like in fire?  Yup.  Interesting.  *points his finger at the troll in pieces in the blister*  You are a contradiction my friend.  *yoink*

I also needed an orange paint.  Sadly, these guys do not carry Reaper's paints but I did pick up Bright Orange from Vallejo.

Field Report Side Note :: Non-mini related :: Sort of because it has mini-ships in it

I found the recently released, and on my list of things to buy soon as money in hand, Firefly The Board Game expansion, Pirates and Bounty Hunters.

SCORE!

Now we can have 6 or 7 players on Friday game night.  YAY!

Jabber's ReaperCon WIP

Since so many of the cool kids are doing it, I decided to have a go as well. I am hoping this will help keep me motivated for the con this year. I want to enter all four categories this year, but we will see how it goes.

The first will be either an Open or Diorama category entry, depending on how productive I am. In keeping with the sci-fi theme this year, I decided to take one of the Dark Sword Miniatures' pieces and give it a sci-fi spin. Meet the Jedi panda! This is Olivia, the Red Panda from DSM. I obviously have converted her polearm to the dual bladed lightsaber. In addition to that, I gave her a hood and also removed the left hand and gave her a skeletal (read: robotic) hand as well. Many thanks to Master Talespinner for his help during the initial part of this WIP! Here she is after a zenithal primer (and then going back and fixing the mold lines I missed...) Pardon the rough primering in spots; as I was correcting the sculpting/mold lines, I rubbed off some primer and quickly went in and reprimered spots.

I see a tour of Reaper happens at 2PM on Sunday.  How long does that take?  I really want to go, but I discovered my only open window is Sunday at the 2PM slot, but I need to be back at the hotel by 4:30 for pickup by the shuttle.  Will that work?

Seems like forever since I got Bones 1 but I'm nearly finished with them, only a dozen or so left to paint.  As I wait here for Bones 2 to arrive I figured I would show off a couple of the ones I've done from the first batch.  I'll do a mass shot showing everything once they are all done.

Bones You'd Like to See, thread #2

This is the current thread for Bones minis we would like to see.

* As the compiler of the data in the thread, I have a request, please don't spend a lot of posts on off topic chatter in this thread, it makes my compiling harder.

* it would make compiling this into a list much. much easier if your post included a brief list of your request at the beginning and then you follow with the paragraphs of text you wish to explain your requests. When clear items are not easily found, they may not make the list that gets forwarded.

* Warlord Game expansions that is requests for specific models for Warlord are encouraged to be made in the Warlord Forums. Warlord Models are part of Game Development and not part of Fantasy Line Development.

Off Topic Chatter and general sillyness will be removed.

thank you.

So I'm going to attempt to pull off a feat of craziness here. I'm planning on a 5-figure diorama that I started last night and trying to finish in time for ReaperCon.

The figures are as follows:

3 Ogres (Tom, Dick, & Harry from the Reaper Artists Con) -

Photo of Tom, Dick, and Harry (the three to the right) courtesy of hungerfan's post while he was at the RAC:

post-12234-0-75000900-1414275779_thumb.j

Anyhow, here's my idea that came to me when I saw them:

The praying paladin is kneeling before a broken temple to his Goddess (the Grey Maiden figure). Nature has reclaimed the temple, all that is left are ruins, broken columns and the old faded statue. There is overgrowth everywhere, the statue and columns are stained with the passage of time.

Suddenly three ogres see him and rush in to clobber the praying paladin, they have him surrounded...

So far, I've gotten the ogres mostly cleaned up of mold lines, glued together, and placed on their 2-inch plastic bases. Tonight I'll finish cleaning up mold lines, fill gaps, prime, and work on the big base which is around a 7 inch circular base of wood about 2mm thick, I'll add foam and cork board to build it up.

The plan is to have the ogres and the paladin as removable and their individual bases cleverly hidden so they look like they are a part of the scene seamlessly.

I'll be working fast and furious on this as I only have 10-11 nights to work on it, but most of those nights I'll have 5-6 hours to work on it and that means I could get this done in 50-60 hours. Wish me luck!

C&C will be greatly appreciated through the process as well.  ^_^

2015 Spring Exchange - Two many Demons

This project was for Keianna

She wanted demons, for a PF adventure path she was running.  I knew this Vrock as going to be a challenge to do right, but was it enough?  What if I added a seond (removable) figure to the base?   a squiggling was the perfect fit.

First the Vrock wouldn't sand up without a base.  Then there were many modlines and gaps...

this guy was just fine.

I decided that I would paint him as a turkey vulture.  it looked suitable demonic and matched the amber wash I had already applied.

These are two Itar's Workshop terrain pieces.  The coppoer coiled steampunk-looking one is IWS-IND-003, "Engine", and the squared-off dark futuristic one with the inner green glow is IWS-IND-001, "Power Generator".

There's a WIP thread here.  They are painted with metallics and straight colors.

Reinforcing a fragile part?

$

I bought this mini from Reaper online store.

http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/14147/latest/14147

The first one I got had it's horn completely bent (more than 90 degree) and when I tried to push it back to the right position, it was broken.

Nice Reaper guys sent me a replacement for free. And this time the mini was in much better shape. The horn was only slightly bent.

But while assembling and cleaning the mini, I found that the horn is inherently very fragile. I am afraid of that sooner or later, the horn will be ripped off from the helm if I use this mini for playing DnD. And I AM planning to use this mini for playing DnD.

Well, is there some good way to reinforce such a fragile part before painting the mini?

Cutting away the horn and using a pin may work, but I want to save it as the last resort.

30014: The Grudge

Well, on the heels of Ghengis Con, like many, I was excited to paint even more.  So a couple days ago I started on my first bust, The Grudge by Jason Wiebe (who I got to chat with again at Ghengis Con again this year).  So far, I am quite happy with it.  It is odd being in a place where you are often happy with your work now.  Of course I lots to improve like we all do, but being happy with something I painted and not finding just flaws is a nice thing.

Last night, I set down to pain the basecoast of the studded armor (or that is what I decided it was going to be), and pretty much finished it (studs are just baseboated).
