As the title says, this thread is all about Kingdom Deaths plastic pin-up set.

With Twilight Knight and Forsaker already finished, meet the remaining girls:-

Since I don't batch-paint very well, I'm working on one at a time, starting with Survivor:-

At this point all I've done is basecoat her skin with a 1:1 mix of Vallejo Dwarf Skin/ Flat Flesh and given it a wash of Vallejo Flesh Shade.

Nagash Rises! WIP

For Christmas I received the new revamped plastic Nagash kit!

Originally, the plan was to assemble him and then finish off a few outstanding projects (like my poor forgotten Storm Knight) before I started painting him, unfortunately:-

nd7FAX.jpg

He was a lot bigger than I expected, and there's nowhere I can safely store his parts, so he has bullied his way to the front of my painting queue.

A couple of days work and:-

His fancy cape thingy is finally undercoated.

Not using my my usual White Primer because it doesn't like hard plastic too much and there is a lot of hard plastic to cover here.

A couple more days and:-

I'm making progress on the basecoats.

The Hexed Lichen section is done, but I think the Royal Blue section needs another coat.

I still have the Andrea Blue and Pure White sections to good though and then (hopefully) the sections can be blended together.

I don't think this has been asked yet, I tried searching but found nothing.

Any word (even a rough estimate) on when the 2015 shirts will go on sale?  Also I think I saw they would be offered through Zazzle again?   I thought about grabbing a few of the Artist Con shirts, but I'm kinda waiting for the new Reapercon ones so I can order once.

I Shouldn't have done that

Yesterday I hade some spare time.

So I started my gamer laptop, and tought, hey it's been a while.

I purchased Baldurs Gate II enhanced Edition last summer, barely checked it.

Let's start a game.

Now I shouldn't have done that.

Yesterday vanished in a blurr of goblins, ending in a scrap with Yuan Ti and Trolls.

Ohh where does the time go?

Beware of games like this. They will eat your time.

*Not Work/Reaper Related.

I've seen other forums do it, and the questions range from the serious (tell us why you said you were having a bad day during the KS and needed malt beverage therapy) to the silly (If you could fly, where would you go, and which statue would you perch on)

SO I'm going to try it here.  Please remember board rules and let's not get crass or crude. I do not promise fast answers, but I will try to answer eventually.

Magic systems in TTRPGs...

$

So I've been running a couple different one-shot adventures as I finish preparing my own campaign world for my players (in Dungeon World).  The one issue I keep returning to, is that of magic systems.  Basically, for current classes in DW, there are a couple different flavours of Vancian magician (including the base "Wizard" class from the handbook - seen here: http://www.dungeonworldsrd.com/classes/wizard),but also more open-ended classes, like the popular Mage by Jacob Randolph, which is much more free-form, lacks prepared spells, and though it has restrictions and (at times catastrophic) downsides and backfires, functions a lot more like "Bending" (a la Avatar: The Last Airbender).  I LOVE this idea, but I wonder, does it make the mage a bit too much of a prima donna in gameplay?  How does a plain old Thief stack up by comparison?

Have you folks dealt with balancing issues like this?  What did you do?

creating/buying pre made sticky/peelable stencils...

So If anyone has ever seen those stencils they use on cars, its basically some tape or whatever that they peel off as they are painting new areas. I'm going to be painting a bunch of easily stenciled areas on models soon and im wondering other than masking tape, are there any materials you can print from a printer and act like a sticker i can remove/apply?

In my mind I see some sort of harder back surface with a sticker on top that i can carve into and then simply remove.

I don't often document my works-in-progress, but I've done so before and I'll do so again.

This thread will let me keep my WIPs in one place.

[EDIT 4/07/15: I didn't know that "never-ending" WIP threads weren't allowed.  Sorry, moderators!  I'll resolve to end this one before it gets too big.  Maybe a WIP of just one new figure will be enough.  I'll start a new thread as needed.]

Here are links to my previous WIP threads:

60010 Xanesha, lamia matriarch (February 2010)

03419 Vaeloth, hellborn paladin (December 2011)

60085 Lirianne, iconic gunslinger (July 2013)  [EDIT 4/12/2015, added this one]

DM/GM Power

$

I was recently in a game where the DM told a Lawful Good Cleric that if they didn't start playing LG that their deity would punish them. The rest of us were all Rogues and their was a npc priest/guide leading us. We had agreed not to steal from the crypts but we were all rogues so we'd ask the cleric to distract the priest and them we'd steal stuff. After the cleric had been warned to play lawful good correctly, she distracted the priest again. So, the DM said her god struck her blind and deaf for a 3 hours. So we locked her in a large tomb, until the adventure was over. She was obviously mad and so was another player. I thought it was funny, because he'd already warned her. I personally think that it was a fair use of power.

Another time a player, again a lawful good cleric,  had a magic ring that could grant one wish. The player said he wanted to have psionic powers equal to his level. The DM refused on the grounds that psionics in our game was only for evil aligned creatures like Drow, Illithids and Duergars.  The player insisted,  so, the DM said ok and then turned him into a illithid. Again I thought it was pretty funny, the cleric was pissed.

I personally think the DMs in my examples were well within their power, and fair. What do you think? How powerful is a DM?

Star Wars Armada

Well I'm glad that I stopped buying X-Wing ships, b/c Armada is stupidly fun. When it was first announced I told myself that I wasn't going to buy it. I'd play it, but only using my friend's set. Well after playing 2 games using the core set fleets, I'm made the decision to buy in. I'm not sure that I'll buy a ton of expansions, and I know that I'll probably only buy expansions for 1 faction, not both, but at the very least I want to have enough ships so that my friend and I can play a full-sized game on the big map (which requires 2 core sets).

What really makes the game shine IMHO is the scenario system. You never play a straight up fight, there's always some scenario rule in effect and ALL games only have 6 turns. At the end of the 6th turn you total up the Victory Points you gained from destroying enemy ships and squadrons, plus any VP you earned for completing scenario objectives.  For example the game we played last night was about out-maneuvering your opponent and the scenario rule was that you gained 15 VP every time you scored a hit on an enemy ship's rear hull. My buddy should have lit me up on this b/c he was playing the Rebels and they're more maneuverable, but it was his first game and he was still trying to figure everything out.

His first lesson was not to park a small ship in front of a Star Destroyer. I one-shotted his CR-90 thanks to some bonus dice and good rolls.

So, I'm working on the Dungeons & Dragons Animated Series characters, and I'm at a loss for Diana the Acrobat. I've got the rest, minus Dungeon Master and Venger, but I already have some ideas as to what I need to order for those two.

And, yes, I know Impact! makes chibi D&DtAS minis. Those aren't what I'm looking for.

The intent of this thread is to have a place to compile Impact paint jobs and techniques.

So far, I have started the Clockwork Pony, Skeleton Pony, and Mummy Pony. I will try and post pictures soon, but am hoping this will encourage others to post as well.

Pro tip: Rustoleum Self Etching Primer works while brush on primers don't.

If you are attending ReaperCon we have a little game for you to play; the ReaperCon Vendor Grand Prix. In your swag bag will be a card, around the edge of that card will be the logos of all the vendors at the show. To play simply visit every vendor in the hall and they will punch your card (no purchase necessary, but feel free to spend money anyway). You don't even have to be the first person to complete the card to win! Once you have all the punches turn it in at the Reaper booth and get your free "Malena the Sorceress" exclusive miniature! You gotta play to win though so don't forget to spend some time in the vendor room during the con, it will be worth your while!

A little sci-fi terrain -- a WIP

$

This year my husband got me some resin terrain from Itar's Workshop, including some sci-fi pieces.

One of these is IWS-IND-003, "Engine" and one of them is IWS-IND-001, "Power Generator", but I can't recall which is which. Here they are with Reaper's Dee Dee, Astro Girl, for scale.
1-scale.jpg

Please pardon my ignorance. I don't know know if these are true-to-life or pure fantasy, so I decided to paint them how I liked. I didn't take pictures for the earliest stages.

First I primed them with titanium white (Golden matte fluid acrylics) with a very little flow improver added.

Typically I wash over this with burnt umber to bring out details before painting. But for these pieces I wanted elements to glow as if lit from within. I have found that lighting effects work better over a pure white base, so I added them before the umber wash.
4-ABlights.jpg

One of them is going to have a cold, green glow, like fluorescent lights. The other has a shaded violet glow from above. Both have a bit of warm gold light.

The mixes are simple. The green was just a touch of phthalocyanine green with titanium white. The violet is the same with the addition of some quinacridone magenta. The yellow is simply yellow iron oxide with white. (Reaper colors = Clear Green (almost), Pure White, Clear Magenta (probably), Palomino Gold)

Anything painted on white looks deeper than it is. These colors are pretty light, and to show how light, here's my half-painted Reaper frost giant next to one of the resin pieces.
5-Howlight.jpg

For the last preparation step I washed some burnt umber over the pieces, brushing only lightly over the lighted areas to leave the recesses brightly colored. I may have missed a cranny here or there which I will fix as I go along.
