My Painting Area...

$

So my painting area needed to migrate, as the room it was in will soon be converted to a Jacuzzi bath / Shower and Laundry room...

So I cleaned up a bunch of stuff in my bed room, and spent the day moving everything out, and then in...

Still need to do some tweaks, and need to find a way to make up for some of the cabinet / shelf space I am losing...

I thought that having the Air brush station ready to go, plus the painting space was more important than storage...

But it is almost 10pm, and I need to paint a bit!

Ok first off sorry I have not been around much lately but work has been very busy and I have been working on a project that took longer than expected, this is a piece of scenery/diorama from a company called gcmini. The miniatures are from both reaper and brigade games and this will be used in the skirmish game "this is not a test". Hope you like it.

paint area organizers, what works...

$
0

...and what doesn't?

TL:DR version: Here's the question: for those that have purchased one of the organizers / organizer systems, which elements have proven to be useful, and which ones not so much.

So, I need to upgrade my painting area to help keep my cats from continually knocking everything over the edge to the concrete floor so their royal highness' may sun themselves at their leisure.  I'm thinking of building an organizer/paint rack (yes I know I can buy one, but I have the ability, materials, and a "freakin' laser" of my own).  Right now my set up consists of a wooden shelf that originally was for the kitchen sink that acts as the holding area for assorted projects, three stacked sorting bins that holds tools, brushes and blister packs. and WIPs (some several years old) scattered across the table, or the floor depending on how long it's been since a cat went through there.

I have about 3' x 8" on a 4'x2' table to work with.  I was thinking of splitting it down the middle: on one side having two stacks of two 3" tall drawers topped with two shelves, on the other side a cubby hole at the bottom to hold a removable paint cup holder with slots for brushes (so I can use it while working on something then slide it back into the cubby when done) and paint racks over that.  Also have been kicking around the idea of putting a peg board on the side to hold blister packs for projects I'll get to Soon™.  I'm open to changing the design based on elements yall think are useful or otherwise.

I'm also hoping that reducing the chaos will also convince me to paint more often.

Computer Science K-12

Without boring you with the details, I am in charge of a new project across an entire school district to implement Computer Science in afterschool clubs at the K-8 level and in the school day at the K-12 level. I am hoping that you fine forum members can point me in the direction of anything and everything you may know about this sort of thing. Things like if you know about schools already doing this, what programs may be being focused on, partnership ideas with tech companies, etc.

Coding is obviously something that comes to mind for many with this kind of topic, and Hour of Code will be a part of this, but I am wondering what else might be available. I would imagine that some other ideas could include: web design, cryptography, computer networks, databases, tech support. What else comes to mind?

I am also wondering what kind of training is available out there to provide to high school teachers in order to get them knowledgeable of things actually useful to students after they graduate.

This may be a long shot, but I figure it could dredge up some interesting ideas. Thanks!

Bonus Challenge: Lost in Time and Space
This is the month the first "Time Machine" movie was released. Paint figure that's lost in their place of time. A sci-fi mini converted to have a shield and sword or such, or a fantasy mini with sci-fi gear such as a gun, baton/shield, etc.

Kalladrax as Frostgrave Terrain Piece (Bones) (77192)

When I first saw the thread over on the Terrain Forum, where lowlylowlycook was painting up Kalladrax to use as Frostgrave terrain, I thought that it was a really cool idea; and I decided I wanted do the same for my Frostgrave games.  So, I picked up a copy of Kalladrax, and last Thursday I got started on the project, and just finished up yesterday.

If you'd like to see the full step by step Work-in-Progress thread, please see here on my Frostgrave Terrain thread; otherwise, on to the photos! :)

I'm really happy with how this piece came out.  I think it will be quite the show-stopper when used as the centerpiece on my Frostgrave table at upcoming conventions.

wow with so many talented people posting things today I am not sure this is going to impress anyone but here goes. I am using this mini as an NPC Paladin gone bad. he has fallen under the sway of a sentient evil sword and shield. both sword and should came from GW spru. I don't remember witch ones, found them in the parts bin, 10 cents apiece. with the wings on his chest and stern visage he kind of reminds me of a space marine. I am thinking of getting this one in metal and see the difference in the casting on this awesome sculpt.  hope everyone like it please give suggestions for improvement. thanks.

Here are my two entries for the Sir Forscale competition. I wasn't going to make a show off post for them, but since we're trying to cut out chatter in that thread, I thought if people wanted to give any feedback (C&C is always very welcome!) that this would be the best place for people to do that.

This was my first time painting the dreaded colour black...I think I was relatively successful, at least in the back. I found the front part of the cloth on him a bit difficult to pick out where highlights should be.

My first one is, naturally xenomorph inspired.... Sir Xenoscale?

And the second one is Blurple and has a flower crown because, why not? Sir ForBlurple? The flowers are made out of Sculpey.

This is a Bones model from the second Bones Kickstarter.  I'm pretty sure he's a villain.  I wasn't quite sure what was going on with this guy's head.  It appears to be a skull with thin bits of flesh remaining, like Christian Bale in the Machinist, so I turned him into some kind of angry zombie.

The death dumpster is done

So, here it is the finished death dumpster, my gencon 2016 painting contest entry. This is the first time I've entered a painting contest at a con that was not the speed paint.

The dumpster is a reaper bones dumpster, wrapped up in a mix of plastic card, mantic, games workshop, and I think tamaya bits that I got from mystery bags at a game auction. His base is made of a CD-r that failed to burn correctly.

Yes - It IS a Reaper Mini ! and Not anthropomorphic.

With all the events happening in the last several weeks, I barely was able to get much painting

in.  CC Numbers stolen, Bank being bought out and account changes, then finishing off the

language course all threw me for a loop.  Concentration became quite difficult.

I am happy to report that the mini has finally been painted to my satisfaction.

Thanks to our local Barbarian for tracking down one of his relatives for me.  Tyden., Barbarian.

She is really small, and I had a lot of fun painting her.

As always your comments and critiques are greatly  appreciated.

Blonde hair, bronze "shield"... I almost painted her blue, not much to that female armor !

Here are a couple of photos.

RITTERLICH!

$

I finally have six fighting CAV armies - some more fight-y than others.  Some have enough models with enough variety to meet diverse challenges, and some are just barely legal if you squint right.  Case in point?  Here's my newly painted Ritterlich army!

Notice a complete lack of infantry, aircraft, fighting vehicles, transports, and for that matter, primary squads.*

But recon and artillery?  Got that *covered*!

Anyway, here's a glimpse of my boys in blue.  They won't see much growth until next year when CAV KS II gets here, but they will see play because, hey, rhinos right?

* As-is, I could only build two legal attack squads, both of which revolve around a rhino and a cataphract with either a recon model or a fire support model to get it up to a full squad of 4.  Truth be told, I'm honestly thinking I'll re-purpose some of these cougars as Cougar IIs - something between a Cougar and a Jaguar, just for the sake of variety.

So What Have you Read Lately? And other favorite books!

$

So,

I got quite a few responses when I asked about what people listen to, now I want to know what you READ!

I mean we can't always be painting minis, otherwise no one would be filling up the forums with questions and pictures....ETC

I am assuming that most folks have read Tolkien, I mean can you be into fantasy minis and games without having read them????

But some others that some people might or might not have read and enjoyed or hated...

Heroes Die, By Mathew Woodring Stover.

I used to work for B&N, and as my staff recommendation I picked this book with the claim "If you don't like this book, I will buy it back from you out of my own pocket!" I sold a lot of books, NEVER bought one back...

The jacket blurb says "Day of the Jackal meats Lord of the Rings!"

Believe it!

Three Hearts and Three Lions, By Poul Anderson

Just finished it for the Nth time, great book

Thieves World, Edited by Robert Aspirin

This is a 12 book shared universe series. Chaosium Games made a multi game supplement based on the first 1 or 2 books.

The cover art of the first books is AWESOME!

The Eternal Champion Cycle, By Michael Moorcock

This includes Erekose, Elric, Corum, Hawkmoon, etc Really something every fantasy buff should read....

MM also writes music with Blue Oyster Cult, and has /had a band called Hawkwind. A very nice British Gentleman!

Name of the Wind, By Patrick Rothfuss

The best new fantasy author to come along in a very long time! Read it, and the sequel, "A Wise Man's Fears"

Jack of Shadows, By Roger Zelazny

Most folks have read about Amber, This book is as good as the original Ambers...

I will add more as I find time...

Gotta paint now!

Bones You'd Like to See, thread #3

$

This is the current thread for Bones minis we would like to see.

* As the compiler of the data in the thread, I have a request, please don't spend a lot of posts on off topic chatter in this thread, it makes my compiling harder.

* it would make compiling this into a list much. much easier if your post included a brief list of your request at the beginning and then you follow with the paragraphs of text you wish to explain your requests. When clear items are not easily found, they may not make the list that gets forwarded.

* Warlord Game expansions that is requests for specific models for Warlord are encouraged to be made in the Warlord Forums. Warlord Models are part of Game Development and not part of Fantasy Line Development.

Off Topic Chatter and general sillyness will be removed.

thank you.
