Blizzard Work; miscellaneous old school figures

While a couple of these are from last week, I've been stuck around the house for the last few days. When my hands haven't been sore from shovelling, I've been getting some painting and basing done.

As always, tabletop painting...

This little group of archers is from three different Ral Partha lines, Legions of the Petal Throne, Royal Armies of the Hyborean Age, and the 1200AD historical range.

This old Ral Partha frost giant, done more generically, was from my recent road trip.

Also from last week was this ancient Ral Partha ES-3 balrog:

I'm putting together a little skirmish game band of Ral Partha gremlins. These two are later versions. Between all the versions, I've got nine different poses, with the next three on the workbench:

I'm gradually working my way through the early Ral Partha fantasy figures. Here's an early version ES-10, hill troll. I apologize for the glare; I'm still working on my lighting skills for these shots:

And, finally, a couple of ents. The one on the left is an old Heritage figure. He's lost all but one finger on his left hand, leaving him permanently a bit rude. ::):

Well? What show's been on the tube lately at your house?

I've been watching the first season of The Fall Guy. Had a strange attachment to it when I was a very wee lad. Like, prior to preschool. and I guess I've figured out why: There're some crazily nonsensical stuff happening in this show. And it's really fun. In the second episode, Lee Majors jumped out of one airplane, sans parachute, in order to purposefully land on another plane. As a stunt preview for a movie producer.

Then he did it again at the end of the episode.

Plus Lee Majors sings the theme song. I need to call my dad to find out if Lee Majors really was the Walker-era Chuck Norris of the 80s.

Footnote: I'm in love with Heather Thomas. :wub:

Last year, the awesome, amazing, fantastic, terrific, talented, awesome Talespinner (aka Andrew Pieper) made a special mini for me. I requested a living doll, in the form of a teddy bear (a rather specific teddy bear that I own, except he's hiding from me atm, otherwise I would post pictures of him too). The teddy bear is Cornelius Dapperbear, living doll created by one of my (many) D&D characters.

The mini is positively tiny. I was going to take pictures of it with a penny, but I didn't have any. But here he is all on his own. Also, I made the base, which explains why it sucks when compared to the bear :lol: :blush:

I hope y'all like him as much as I do ^_^ :wub:

Looking for horses. Just horses.. no riders.

I searched the Reaper site and I can find plenty of horses *with* riders, and pegasi, but no run of the mill horses.

Would like to be able to track horses after players dismount their steeds.. you know.. because sometimes monsters get hungry, and it's important to know where the ~~monster-food~~ horses are at. :)

Marven Minsky, "father of artificial intelligence" died last Sunday, at the age of 88.

Hey all, DMAgamus here with another one. This time I took the Necromancer Darkrasp and made him into an Astromancer. The main reason I painted this was because I had and idea fir the cloak and it would give me a chance to practice blending. Took some work, but I'm happy with how he came out, especially the cape and flask he has. Scroll came out looking like vellum, which I'm ok with, but I wish I could've made the runes look like they are glowing. Anyways, here he is, mostly done.

Hi everyone!

As some of you might remember, I am Swedish. This is a bit unfortunate when it comes to having miniature painting as a hobby it seems, since the only company I've found selling minis here is Games Workshop and I am not playing Warhammer...
So I would like to know if you have any tips on miniature companies based in Europe, which would at least mean a bit cheaper (and faster) shipping than getting all my stuff from the US?

I'm not sure yet on the cat on the left, I want the one on the dumpster to view the scene.

Maybe the position of peaches and the motorcycle could be altered.

So any comments and suggestions, give them to me, so I can do what I want in the end anyway.. :;):

In honour of Lemmy's death I will include several Motörhead / Lemmy references in the piece.

Does this card wall make a believable wall?

This is another Bones miniature designed by Jason Wiebe — 80001: Ape-X.

I think that a gorilla's skin would tend to be blacker than this, but that made it very monochromatic, so I browned it up a bit.

And here it is again, photographed from every angle, just in case you really need to know what it would look like from a rear three-quarter view.

Some old Ral Partha Shadowrunners from futures past

These are some old Ral Partha sculpts (now sold by Iron Wind Metals) I finished up in my year-end Conga Line of cleaning up half-done minis.

In Iron Wind's catalogue they are: DS-044 Female Corporate Decker with Laptop and Gun; DS-048 Male Corporate Decker with Laptop and Pistol; and the man from the set 20-524 Riggers & Drones.

These are old school figures from the early '90s and are 25mm scale, so a little small by today's standards. The woman corporate decker is especially small and looks to me like a schoolgirl; I painted her up as a Filipina PC for a game I'm playing in. I thought the man corporate decker looked more a Native American than a suit. The rigger has disproportionately short legs which make him look a little odd and he has some sort of campy Captain Kirk in the movies vibe.

Shadowrun's vision of the future is solidy based in the 1980s. Adventurers have to cart around gargantuan keyboard computers in their bare hands and physically plug them in to systems with wires. Their version of the internet is hilarious, to say the least.

But what can I say? I love campy sci-fi futures past.

Just finished these for the boyos birthday - he turned 15 yesterday but we're celebrating today. He saw the Doomscythe model and really liked it so I started a small force for him, more to do, but this is what's finished now. Anyway, c&c is always welcome! First time I've done a vehicle, other than a car or P51 mustang lol

One year of painting

It was exactly one year ago today that I walked into PAX South here in San Antonio intent on trying out miniature painting for the first time. I had bucket loads of bones miniatures from the kickstarters and told myself I better figure out if I really was going to do anything with them or not. My sole intent of going to PAX that Friday last year in January was to do the Reaper paint and take. I painted my first miniature and knew I was hooked. I bought a Bones learn to paint kit and now here I am one year later. I still have that first miniature and just finished one today. Here is the comparison.

Reaper Bones 77079: Isabeau Laroche, Female Paladin - First miniature I ever painted. Here she is.

Reaper Bones 77091: Nienna, Female Elf Ranger - Just finished her today exactly one year ago from that first paint and take. I'm looking forward to another year of getting better!
