The Resolutionary Painting Challenge had a bonus challenge this month to paint a winter-themed wizard. I got the idea in my head and decided to paint my Bones Anirion with that effect. Since I had a spare I decided to do the 2nd one in a fire theme. Thanks for reading!

i went to a painting class and learned alot about painting and that the biggest issue i was having was that my paint was going on too thick, my brushes sucked, and never use pure black or pure white to color my piece. the person leading the class was amazing and really helped me improve my abilities to paint. you can see a huge jump from my last post

( http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/66670-my-first-group-of-reaper-minis/) to this post in painting.

It was well needed class.

Finished this guy just a few minutes ago. Hope Y'all like him!
We realized after I was about halfway done that he's a "not-vecna". He's missing his left hand and eye. I was going for a bit of a ring wraith feel with the hair. I wanted it to look dead and gross. Did I get it?
Also, I hate orbs. I tried to do lightning to cheat the fact that I'm awful at orbs. If you are good at orbs, I kind of hate you. You know who you are.

C&c always welcome and appreciated!

I finished this guy up the other day, but I hadn't based it. I decided to do a little basic base to get him done and off the desk.
I love these guys. Seriously. ☺

Here is the next Heresy model from the current batch of models to be used in Frostgrave, my only concern is he is such a large model that he is going to be an arrow and spell magnet.

2015 Secret Sophie / Winter Exchange - Official Thread

$

Welcome everyone, to the 2015 Secret Sophie thread!

What is Secret Sophie, you ask?  Well, it's a lot like Secret Santa, with a more attractive (albeit more dangerous) delivery person!  (For those not in the know, Sophie the Succubus is Reaper's mascot.)  This is the time of year for Reaper forumites to give a little holiday cheer to each other.  Unlike most of the exchanges we do on the forums, this will have two categories - miniature and gift exchange and gift-only exchange.  Signups will run from November 1st to November 10, with the assignments going out around the 15th.

If you've never done an exchange before, how it works is like this: Everyone who is interested PMs me with the questionnaire below filled out.  The organizers (fanguad, ub3r_n3rd) then match you with a person to whom you will send your gift/mini, and another person from whom you will receive a gift/mini from in return (sometimes it's the same person). You have until the deadline to send your gift/mini out (though we tend to be fairly lax about enforcing deadlines; remember it's supposed to be fun!). That's pretty much it, feel free to PM me with questions.

The Rules (tl;dr version)
  • Gifts should be primarily new, Reaper-branded presents.
  • Exchanging painted miniatures is optional.
  • Fill out the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM.
  • The deadline for non-painters to mail their items is December 31st.  The deadline for painters is January 15th.
  • This thread is for official business only.  Use the chatter thread for random conversations.
Full Rules
  • Decide whether you are doing gift and miniature exchange or gift-only exchange.
    • "Gifts" are Reaper paints, unpainted miniatures, or other Reaper painting supplies.  Recommended dollar value of gifts is $25 or less.
    • The miniature exchange is where you paint a Reaper miniature for someone and mail it to them.  If you want to paint more than one miniature, you may do so.
    • Non-Reaper items may be included, but the focus of this event is on Reaper items, so keep them in the minority.
  • Fill out the appropriate sections of the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM.  Please fill out the current version of the questionnaire, Please don't just send an old one, as questions may have changed.  I am going to be a little stricter than normal about filling in all the questions and may send it back for clarification if you don't.
  • Please don't contact your partner unless they have listed themselves as okay with contact. I've included it on the questionnaire, so you'll know who wants to keep it secret and who doesn't.
  • Try really hard to get your miniature out by the deadline.  Let an organizer know if you are going to be late.
  • This thread is for official business/discussion only.  That includes stuff like questions for me, or updates like "I mailed my package", but discussions about what to send or how awesome the stuff you received was should go in the chatter thread.
  • In the past some people have wanted to send food - please verify allergens, etc. with your partner before proceeding.
  • If you are mailing internationally and plan to send more than just miniatures/paint, you must contact your recipient to get any "bonus items" approved.  We don't want any trouble with customs.  As an example, plant matter or powders can cause a lot of trouble.
  • The organizers (fanguad, ub3r_n3rd) can help facilitate any anonymous conversations you want to have with your partner.
  • Have fun!
Deadline
The deadline for mailing gifts is December 31st, but if you can get it out before Christmas, that's even better!
The deadline for mailing exchange miniatures is January 15th.

Assignments Deadline
The organizers will send the assignments out in about two weeks (November 15th).  Please let me know if you're interested by the 10th.  I can't make any guarantees if you're late, but I will try to make arrangements.

Exchange Assistant
ub3r_n3rd will be helping me run this exchange.  He will coordinate and communicate with approximately half the participants.  You can contact either of us if you have any questions or issues.

Notes: Remember to include your zip code and country.  Please format this correctly for your county in case you have an international partner.

-Gift Information: Inbound-
What are you interested in receiving? Metal or Bones fantasy monsters
Examples: metal/resin/bones, scenic elements, Dark Heaven Legends/Chronoscope/Warlord/Pathfinder/Savage Worlds, paints

-Miniature Information: Outbound-
What can you paint?  Fantasy PCs or monsters
Examples: fantasy, sci-fi, monsters, PCs, women, undead, demons, etc

-Miniature Information: Inbound-
What do you want to receive?  Fantasy enemies for my players to fight!  Monsters or human(ish) are both fine.
Examples: mouslings, necromancers, warriors, dual-wielders, etc
What DON'T you want to receive?  No nudity please.  Also, I have plenty of goblins so I don’t need more.
Examples: gross, nudity, undead, kobolds, animals, etc
What material do you want to receive?  I’m fine with any material
Notes: Reaper miniatures come in Bones, resin and metal
Do you have a particular color scheme in mind?  No preference.
Notes: If you’re asking for a miniature to be used in army, you can ask your partner to match the colors.
What style of basing would you prefer? Plain or basic - I will use these miniatures in my PFRPG games.
Examples: round or square preference? Unbased, plain base (simple black base), basic base (standard sized base with some scenic elements), or scenic base (fancy base not really suitable for gaming)
Please give your partner some inspiration, especially if you have very few preferences above.
I’m starting the PFRPG Adventure Path “Jade Regent” soon.  Try painting non-human skin tones.  My favorite color is blue.  “Spring has sprung!”
Notes: Consider this a non-binding word of inspiration for your partner.  If they’re stuck and can’t figure out what to paint, maybe this will help them.  No need to repeat your preferences above.  You partner may ignore this question if they already have an idea from the your previously answered questions.
Examples: Are there any books or movies you’ve enjoyed recently?  Is there a challenge or technique you’d like your partner to try?  How about some song lyrics or a quote from a book?

-Personal Information-
Will you ship internationally? Yes
Notes: Be aware that postage costs will be higher than domestic postage.  If you mail internationally, you will need permission from your partner to include other gift items so that we don’t run afoul of customs.  Most participants in these exchanges are located in the USA.
Would you be willing to have multiple exchange partners? Yes, I love painting!
Notes: If yes, specify if there is a limit (though it is unlikely we'll ask you to do more than 2)
Would you like to know who is painting for you? No
Examples: Yes, No, No Preference
Notes: If you say yes, your preference will be communicated to your partner.  It will be up to them to contact you.

Would you like your partner to know who is painting for them? No
Examples: Yes, No, No Preference
Notes: You can contact them directly to work out details or ask for advice.  We will attempt to match people with similar preferences, but can’t guarantee this is the case.

Is there anybody you would prefer not to paint for?  (please include why)    I painted for johndoe123 in the last miniature exchange.
Notes:  If you like to paint for a variety of different people, you can list those you’ve painted for in the past.  We will do our best to pair you with someone new.  Another situation is that you know certain people in real life, and would prefer to paint for someone you don’t know.

Also, if anyone has a holiday-themed miniature you've painted that I can use to grace the OP of this topic, send me a PM with a link to forum thread or inspiration gallery entry.

So, I just like stalking people and all, and when I noticed the old thread on this was a dead link (Frappr shut down!? Surprisingly this is news to me XD ) I thought it might be a good idea to find an alternative to Frappr to use and I said such. Then I actually decided it would be easier to just do it myself and went off and did it.

Now, without further ado, I present you the link to the Reaper Map.

[MOD]

Dead link:

Active map:

Zeemaps

[MOD]

It allows a maximum of 500 markers on it, but that shouldn't be too big of a problem any time soon, and if it is, there's some premium feature to change the maximum/disable it, so we'll open that tomb when we come to it.

You can put whatever you want in the Notes/Name/etc, pictures are allowed (and wanted, unless you're Matt, we don't need those.) and some people have been using the Notes to list their interests related to Miniatures (i.e. Painting, Wargames, Fetish, etc). That seems to make sense, so if ya want to make your marker more useful to people around you then you should probably do that.

If you're afraid of me stalking you, then you can just approximate your location instead or list your location as the city prison or whatever else. Now, can I get some Reaper love over here in the Pacific Northwest? I feel all alone :(

Contrast color advice needed

Hi all,

So I've been painting up my Legion of Everblight for Hordes with the dark elf skin triad and I'm having some trouble getting a nice color for the wings.

This is what I'm currently at:

hQede23.jpg

I'm thinking of a off white color that isn't too yellow. Something like the old Dhneb stone from GW. I'm looking at using the reaper vamparic skintone set and I'm just wondering is it more grey or green as it's quite difficult to tell on my monitor and unfortunately nowhere in my country sells reaper paints so I can't go and look

Cornelius Dapperbear, WIP

A forumite (I'll let her reveal herself if she wishes) did a huge favor for me recently, and in return, I offered to do a small sculpt for her.  She asked me to sculpt a dancing, jointed teddy bear in a tuxedo, named Cornelius Dapperbear.

The bear will be about 12mm to the top of the head and 15mm to the top of his top hat.  He'll have a cane in his left hand and be tipping his hat with his other.

Tonight, I created the armature as seen in the following photos:

I was happily ordering miniatures for my next D&D campaign ... then they all showed up.

And I suddenly realized "oh my, I have to paint all 112 of these..."

Guess that'll keep me busy the rest of the year, lol.

This is the current thread for minis we would like to see.

* As the compiler of the data in the thread, I have a request, please don't spend a lot of posts on off topic chatter in this thread, it makes my compiling harder.

* The included list is formatted exactly how HQ receives it. it would make compiling much. much easier if your post included a brief list of your request at the beginning and then you follow with the paragraphs of text you wish to explain your requests. When clear items are not easily found, they may not make the list that gets forwarded.

* Warlord Game expansions that is requests for specific models for Warlord are encouraged to be made in the Warlord Forums. Warlord Models are part of Game Development and not part of Fantasy Line Development.Off Topic Chatter and general sillyness will be removed.

thank you.

Just like the title says - PAX South is only 3 weeks away! Jan 29th-31st in San Antonio, Texas.

Is anyone from the forums going? PAX cons are usually talked about for their video gaming parts, but the tabletop part is getting more notice nowadays. ::):
