The Last Hurrah Project..Photo Heavy
I've been working on The Project for some time now; inflicting various W.I.P. & finished photos on various & sundry Forums. Now your time has come.
To start off, we'll take the Tour of Compo Heep's Mushroom Brew House & Bat Poop Farm coducted by Heep Himself.

Your kind commentary & critiques would be appreciated. Be warned though, a positive reaction will only encourage me to continue posting.
Khael Stonekindle (77075) - Conversion
I already posted some pictures of my Khael miniature some time ago, but I had a second Dwarf pack from the Kickstarter, so I decided to do the second one slightly different. Looking at the original there were two aspects of the miniature I did not like (I love the miniature anyway :P): The oversized sword and the lack of texture on the staff.
Ok, so what to do? First I cut of the staff entirely and replaced it with some wire. I then proceeded to use the dragon head from Galladon's staff (77054) and altered it slightly to allow a more organic fit to the new staff. The idea was that the staff was found as one piece and then carved into a dragon's head.
The second step was to remove the sword and resculpt the robes. I then attached some shapes that resemble vials to the now empty space, as well as a feather and a mushroom. After this I covered it with greenstuff to achieve a bulged out look for a knapsack with some of the contents still showing. Some straps and string add interest.
I am not sure what colour scheme I will go for this time. I like the one I used, but I also saw a beautiful combination of green robe and blue hat with a reddish-brown beard.
Let me know what you think about this conversion.
03278: Rogan, Half-orc thief Black cloth attempt
Hey all, DMAgamus here painting this coll mini. Ths is one of the pewter minis I got for christmas, and will be the second pewter mini I've painted. He's a half orc rogue, a neat combo and a unique mini! When I first saw him, I thought :Black cloak and breeches, leather gloves and boots, not sure about t he padded armor. I'm happy to ake suggestions for that, maybe a dark red? He is a thief, so I want it to be muted, but don't want it plain old gray. Anyways, this is where I'm at on him. His skin is finished on the arms, and I'm pretty happy with his cloak. They say nothing is ruly black, so I started with a mix of pure blac and leather brown, kept adding leaher brown to highlight, then gave it a black glaze to try and smoothe it out. I thin it came out pretty ok for a first shot. The light isn't doing the pictures any favor, but you can get an dea of what it looks like. I can see myself using blue in place of leather brown for a colder looking mini, but I wanted this one to be warmer. This orc is a hero PC in my mind.
Jan Resolutionary Paint Challenge: Gnolls (4)
Technique Practice, month one.
4 gnolls, painted the eyes, TTM on the armor and then basing using a Basius stamp pad.
also by necessity fur.
These three each have a base color that mirrors their skirt.
the spear is toothpick and green stuff.
the water effect is practically invisible.
I am happiest with the eyes, the TMM seems okay, the basing still a work in progress, but I learned a lot trying them.
Bones Shadow Dragon
Reaper 03665 Ostarzha, Female Elf Cleric (Reaper 3665)
Gungar, Half Orc Monk (Reaper 2926)
I am trying to paint up at least one mini for each class/race combo for each gender in D&D, and here is the male half orc monk. My thinking in painting his fists is that he used a spell or item to buff his hands to be like stone.
His fist and leg wraps were a pain to paint, but I think they turned out ok in the end.
Malena the Sorceress with Gold Orb (Reaper 1559)
Hardware store for Calamity
I'm still contemplating exactly what I want my saloons for Calamity to like. In the meantime I decided that something a bit more complicated was called for. This is the "Hardware" store, I'm not sure it will remain a hardware store in the end but for now its a convenient handle. Still in the construction phase but the light at the end of the tunnel is starting to get bigger.
Here is a link to the last installment on my blog: http://wargamesandrailroads.blogspot.com/2016/01/building-calamity-27-hardware-store.html
A new park entrance (clay Golem)
Hi everyone,
My painting isn't going so well unfortunately, because of shaking hands from the side effects from my new anti-epilepsy meds. So i spend the past week building a base for my Clay Golem and just finished it.
Built out of blue foam, some milliput and creativity
Hope you all like it!
Any C&C is, as always, much appreciated!!
02560: Strohm, Earth Sorcerer, 02538: Lesser Elementals(Earth)
I swapped out the piece that comes with him for the lesser earth elemental. I really like these elementalists. They were supposed to be evil, but went a different route on me. Enjoy
edit: So I have to admit I got a little exited playing with new toys last night and rushed the picture process. But I just wasn't happy with how dark they turned out. After another read through of the Miniatures Photography 101 I think I did a much better job today. Now You can see all the detail good and bad!
So...I forgot to paint his face!
Sorry little dude, the painting of faces shall commence immediately
03148: Jerach, Undead Hunter
A Nightmare in Feathers:- Kingdom Death Phoenix
Don't have the greatest track record in finishing large minis, but lets give it a try:-
He's only partially assembled at this stage, letting the glue dry overnight before trying to attach his feet.
I also have 20+ tiny hands to glue to his wings, but that's a job for when I'm fully awake!
Aku-chans Paints In Progress:- 1st Qtr 2016
One of my goals for the new year is to try and paint more, see if I can make a decent sized dent in my mini mountain, and I'm trying one of these fancy seasonal WIP threads to see if it helps.
(I know I'm a little early in starting, but the Christmas TV is really awful this year, so I don't have much to do except paint.)
So, on the desk currently, I have:-
Tesla (Twisted) and a banner-carrying bad guy from my Age of Sigmar Starter Set (Games Workshop).
The banner guy I've been painting on and off for a while, there's so much going on on him, that he easily becomes overwhelming even with a simple paint scheme.
Tesla has also been here a while, I've got his skin done and made a start on his hair, but progress is slow because I just haven't been painting much lately and he always seems to get left out.
Fresh to the table:-
A gaggle of Games Workshop characters (2 Chaos Champions, 2 Undead Warriors, a Dark Elf, a Wood Elf and a Human Captain), don't know how many I'll get done before I lose interest though.
I'm also committed to trying to get a bit of my Kingdom Death: Monster set painted every month:-
I've got the Antelope and Butcher ready for February and March, but January is set aside for:-
My little tribe of Lion Armour wearing Survivors.
Lets see how much I can get done in the next 90 days.
Reaper Bones Giant Rats
Taking another chunk out of the pile-o-bones. My second video of 2016 is how I paint my Reaper Bones Giant Rats!
Let me know what you think!
that's amora
Fantasy Egyptian Mini Concepts
I'm working with a local friend to try to make some new multi-part minis. First up is some Fantasy Egyptians. Comments would be greatly appreciated, and yeah, I know this is pretty basic right now, but we're working on fleshing it out more.
GW bringing back specialist games
GW has just (well, earlier today) made the official announcement that they will be re-opening their specialist games design studio. For those unfamiliar, these are all of the other games that GW used to do that you probably never heard of because they didn't support them all that well. Things like Mordheim, Necromunda, Gorka-Morka, and so on.
The games specifically mentioned in the announcement were: BFG (Battle Fleet Gothic---a game of space battles between entire fleets), Blood Bowl---fantasy football (as in elves playing against orcs, etc), Epic---massive wargame using 6mm (I think) figures, and Necromunda---gangland skirmish set in GW's version of the future.
It might be interesting to see how this shapes up.
I'd like to see them bring back/update/re-release WARHAMMER QUEST.
Happy birthday, Malynor!
Happy
birthday!
