Cersei Lannister - DSM5005

$

I've been working on Cersei for over two weeks.  I decided to kick up

my basing skills a notch, and so I selected this Tom Meirer Sculpt, and decided to

give her a fitting base, and hone the painting skills a bit further.  She is 25mm

(one inch tall), and an incredible piece of art.  I avoided the base she came with and

dreamed up my own, and made it from scratch.  I pulled out a couple of old skills, and

built a balcony for her.  I have totally enjoyed painting and basing her.

As always your comments and criticism are welcome, and desired.

Let me know what you think of Cersei Lannister.

Approaching Storm

Here is my rendition of Elmore's approaching storm which was cast by Dark Sword. I really like this mini! It reminds me of a confessor from Sword of Truth. PS- after taking this photo I added a few more highlights to her flesh tones. I also wish I had added deeper shadows on the back of her cloak. That is the problem with painting white, sometimes it is difficult to judge how dark to make the shadows.

I tried to make the Vrock very dark, yet still have some color to him.  He won't win any beauty contests, but being who he is, he was not a contender to start with.

Love this earth elemental from Shieldwolf.  Just wish he was looking forward instead of down, since you can hardly see his face.

Hey all! My better half and I took a basing class with Michael Proctor at ArtistCon today. This is what we've gotten so far!

I got really excited to take photos, but unfortunately the best lighting was in the hotel bathroom. Sorry...

And so begins my first WIP thread:

Frogimus posted this awesome formula for verdigris in this post: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/64829-statue-for-frostgrave-proof-of-concept/?hl=verdigris#entry1242403

Base coat is Reaper 09263 Mint Green, followed by Army Painter Soft Tone, then dry brushed with Reaper 09049 Ancient Bronze.

And I kinda got carried away...

2015 Fall Exchange - Official Thread

$

0

There are only a few stragglers from the Summer Exchange, so let's kick off the fall version!  There will be about two months of painting time so we can leave room at the end of the year for Secret Sophie.  Signups will run from August 1st to August 10th, with assignments going around the 15th.  Miniatures should be mailed by October 15th.

If you've never done an exchange before, how it works is like this: Everyone who is interested PMs me with the questionnaire below filled out (please don't just send an old one, as the questions may have changed). I then match you with a person whom you will paint a mini for, and a second person whom you will receive a painted mini from (sometimes it's the same person). You have until the deadline to send your mini out (please try really hard to do this, though we understand if sometime life gets in the way). That's pretty much it, feel free to PM me with questions.

How does it work?  (tl;dr version)

  • Fill out the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM.
  • Paint your partner a mini and mail it to them by October 15th.
  • This thread is for official business only. Use the chatter thread for random conversations.

Full Rules

  • Reaper minis are the focus. If you want to paint more than one miniature, you may do so. If you wish to include other gifts for your recipient, you may do so, but please keep them small. There is no hard and fast rule, but keeping the value less than the price of a single miniature is a good rule of thumb. The focus of the exchange should be a Reaper product.
  • Fill out the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM. Please fill out the current version of the questionnaire, as some of the questions have changed. I am going to be a little stricter than normal about filling in all the questions and may send it back for clarification if you don't.
  • Please don't contact your partner unless they have listed themselves as okay with contact. I've included it on the questionnaire, so you'll know who wants to keep it secret and who doesn't.
  • If you want to keep your participation a secret, make sure that you don't post in here or the chatter thread.
  • Try really hard to get your miniature out by the deadline. Let an organizer know if you are going to be late.
  • This thread is for official business/discussion only. That includes stuff like questions for me, or updates about sending and receiving packages, but discussions about what you're painting or how awesome the mini you received was should go in the chatter thread.
  • If you are mailing internationally and plan to send more than just miniatures/paint, you must contact your recipient to get any "bonus items" approved. We don't want any trouble with customs.
  • The organizers (fanguad, ub3r_n3rd) can help facilitate any anonymous conversations you want to have with your partner.
  • Have fun!

Deadline
The deadline to mail out miniatures for this exchange will be two months from when assignments are sent out, on October 15th.

Assignments Deadline
The organizers will send the assignments out in about two weeks (August 15th).  Please let me know if you're interested by the 10th.  I can't make any guarantees if you're late, but I will try to make arrangements.

Exchange Assistant
ub3r_n3rd will be helping me run this exchange.  He will coordinate and communicate with approximately half the participants.  You can contact either of us if you have any questions or issues.

Movies - Recently Watched or Plan to Watch Soon

The intent of this thread is to state a movie or a few movies you have seen recently or plan to watch soon. Try to include some explanation of why and if you have seen it before.

My intent is to focus on movies already available and not on hype of movies not yet released.

I will start:
Many of the movies I watch are movies I watched as a kid and my wife never saw. Last night we watched Robin Hood: Men in Tights. It was just as funny as I remembered it.

The Fly is on the short list for the wife to see...even though she is reluctant due to being anti-scary movie.

--->Since I didn't have enough stuff going on<---

And Halloween is right around the corner, I needed to paint something in that theme...

Since in 30+ years of painting minis, I have never painted a Vampire, I decided it was time when I found these 2 guys in the pile of blister packs...

People commented that the Duergar I painted a while back had nice creepy looking flesh tones, and I agree. So I am going to take these 2 one step further up the layering chain of colors that I used there. Then we will see if I start adding White to the mix.... Maybe the Reaper Spectral White, with that hint of Blue in it?

Eyes were done with GW Scorched Brown, then Reaper Spectral White.

Ivan I started with Scale 75 Brown Grey, then Rainy Grey:

012.JPG 013.JPG 014.JPG

Matthias the same:

009.JPG 010.JPG 011.JPG

Sorry about the blurry pics, to late now to re take them though! Camera focusing on wrong parts, and operator not checking the pics...

Then a layer of Thar Brown on Ivan:

023.JPG 024.JPG 025.JPG

Matthias the same:

020.JPG 021.JPG 022.JPG

Next will be Thar Brown with Mojave White. Then lots of glazes of that mix to smooth things out.

Comments, Thoughts, Ideas all welcome!

Some More Dungeon Accesories, Well of Chaos (03569) & Cauldron (P02904D)

Even more stuff to work on.....

Well of Chaos was done with GW Greys and Khaki drybrushed over P3 Black Spray primer, then some different inks dabbed on and smeared with a Q-tip. Scale 75 Decayed Metal on non stone parts....

Against a black Background, Then white:

013.JPG 014.JPG 015.JPG 016.JPG 017.JPG

Cauldron was done with Black P3, then the "Fire" was given multiple coats of Reaper White Brush on Primer. Gw Bad Moon Yellow, drybrushes of Golden Yellow, Blazing Orange, Blood Red and Red Gore. No real 'tongues' of flame to work with here....

Cauldron is Scale 75 Black Metal.

Ok, here is a figure I started at RCon.  I wanted to get a palette cleansing figure done before I got back to my other WIPs. I didn't realize she was a Bone 2 figure till I got back.  So I guess Alistrilee will be my first Bones 2 I paint up.  Odd how I'm thinking of doing a figure with all that gold NMM as palette cleansing.

Here is where I'm starting from:

ArtistCon Bones Giant Conversions

I guess I got to the event between 11 and 12. The second order of business was to sign up for classes.

The first class I could get into was a Conversion class conducted by Jason Weibe. The theme was to convert the big Bones Skeleton (77116) possibly on a Halloween theme.

It was great fun and towards the end I started snapping pictures of our efforts. I got a picture (or in some cases two pics) of almost everybody's giant. Enjoy:

Fall WIP of SGHawkins

Alright this WIP will contain more than a few mins. Most of the time I work on one or two specific projects that have a solid deadline. I started to find that I would get burnt out doing that so I am planning on doing something different this time. While a few of these could be competition entries and a couple are gifts, I plan on working on each a little at a time so I can keep my interest renewed.

image.jpg

So on to the victims. Starting with the top left, we have a Gotham Policeman from Knight Models. He is a present for my Dad who is a retired police officer and will be painted in a tan uniform that was worn by San Diego PD until the early 90's. It is the uniform my Dad wore on patrol up until he joined their New Technologies Unit. He has no idea that I am doing this for him and I hope I can do it justice.

Next up is Reaper's Vampire Noble (3042) whom I am just painting for fun and vampire skin practice. If I get him done he might be entered in the Halloween contest. If anyone knows what the critter by his legs is, please speak up because I have no idea. The little guy next to him is Hasslefree's Albert, a cute little tyke who, like the vampire, I am painting for fun.

In the next row we have Stonehaven's half-lion who is a commission for a friend. Next her is Sayna from Draconia and her base. I may do some water effect on her base but I have not decided yet. She may be my entry for the fantasy large category on our next con, if I finish in time. Lastly at the bottom, we have Reaper's Kristiana (77223) and Troll Slayer Sophie (77370). These are commissions for another friend. And finally we had the Lovers from Dark Sword. These are going to part of a small vignette that is for my parents as a late anniversary present.

I apologize for the wall of text and lack of paint on the minis. I wanted to get this started before I got too far into working on them.
