Orders placed through Reapers Online store during the month of December will get a random bottle from the new upcoming Bones HD paint line.

I watched a youtube video of someone painting the Mousling Pirate -- the end result looked really nice, so he must know what he's doing.
The thing is though, I saw him paint directly onto the metal with brown MSP paint -- i.e. no primer.
Is this okay to do? I'd seal the finish product with some brush on hardware store wood varnish. (unless I should use another varnish. Don't know how it would hold up without primer.
This is the video in question:
This Area is set up to allow those of us with an interest in these things to have one area to discus
anything related to writing, correspondence (by hand writing) excellent papers, seals for wax,
wax, and just general no electronic communication.
This week I found time to start the Bedeviled Set from the Bones I Kickstarter, and completed a nice tabletop paint job on Sinessa, Hellborn Sorceress. When I was looking at the figure and considering how I wanted to paint her, I thought she might work good as some kind of ice demon for my Frostgrave games, so I decided to paint her in a more wintery paint scheme. I also thought I would experiment with the techniques presented in MonkeySloth's Ice Base tutorial http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/43463-tutorial-creating-ice-bases/?p=605514
As always, C & C are welcome.
I'm very pleased with how she turned out, and think she looks suitable frosty. :)
I really have far too many miniatures. At least 20, and with a further 20 inbound from the 20 kickstarters I have backed the last few years. So for 2016 I will try to crank out those minis at an elevated pace, and chalk up an even 366 -one for each day - finished by the end of the year.
Of course, this means that to avoid spamming the excellent reaper forums with samey, production-line dross nobody really wants to see, I will not be posting each and every one done here even though the rpchallenge says I should.
Instead I will post Reaper minis and maybe some other that I find interesting enough. The rest will get pictures linked to the rpchallenge monthly post for anybody who might be interested.
so....
I am pushing to finish off the Shadows of Brimstone game sets, and here are the latest batches I have done:
Gives a new meaning to "puking your guts out" doesn't it?
The Goliath, who is the end level boss from Shadows of Brimstone: City of the Ancients. A greater daemon sized tentacled horror, Hard as nails in game, and usually does not appear alone!
Presumably it feeds by vomiting its tendrilled aesophagus onto it's intended food, and then slowly digesting them from the outside, or maybe it just captures and pulls its' meal inside? The heroes are not sticking around to find out! 60mm base
The three Slashers from Shadows of Brimstone: Swamps of Death. Giant Lobster Ogres, much like Mirelurks. I have been putting these off because I could not decide on a paint scheme. In the end, I decided to start them off as vaguely lobster-like and just wing it. I think what I ended up with works well. 40mm bases.
Here are the Void Spiders. Nasty little extradimensional bugs, and numerous. There are 12 in the game.
I have been debating myself about how to paint these, and settled for a tarantula-like scheme. Sinister and simple, but with a splash of colour. Also, I chose to paint the frontmost tooth-lump as a single baleful eye just in the corner of the maw. Quite unsettling.
So Ub3r and I are doing a 54mm+ challenge after I finish what I am painting. join us...... join us.....
I'm sure it's just a weird simple update thing but it's quite...frustrating. Yeah...it's definitely a place of frustration. I live in a spot where I absolutely have to pick up any package as soon as it's dropped off or it'll disappear. You'd think after the first package that 'disappeared' they'd know the stuff that gets sent to me really is never the expensive goods that the heavy box reflects that they are but my neighbors are morons.
Current Reaper package said it arrived in my county/city, and at some point it decided that it was picked up back in texas right after. I can only imagine this means it's out for delivery today. I'm absolutely fine for cheaper options for Reaper to ship their bundles of awesome, I just wish the UPS had a better website/tracking information.
Apologies in advance as some of these pictures I fear are a bit larger than I'd thought =/ I tried to crop them well enough for this forum but not sure how well I succeeded.
These are the pieces I've made this year, pretty much originally for my swamp board, for Warhammer. However, once I started making them I realized it'd be a better idea to actually make them a bit modular, for all RPGs and other wargames (like frostgrave and malifaux). And it makes for a bit easier storage.
Most of these pieces were inspired by the local swamps like Okefenokee here in GA. I find all these kind of areas just beautiful and full of so many unique features!
These are some basic Ruins. I found using a foamboard for the base was not a great idea, it warped too much unfortunately.
Here (below) a Swamp Pond, or bridge to terra firma as I've called it (couple different versions)
My mausoleum piece. This is sort of in keeping with the ruins piece. It's meant to sit in a (obviously) drier part of the swamp, while getting inspiration from the swamp for plants etc.
I'm working on two other pieces now (only in planning stages) - one is to be a more central piece of swampy land with lots of water areas and maybe(!) solid land parts, the second is going to be a kind of monster bird nesting spot, something like a marsh bird that nests near swamps. I plan on using pine straw (plentiful out here in GA) to make the "nests", something as yet undecided for 'eggs' and I'm looking for suitable figures for the bird monsters. The idea being a dangerous area PCs (or armies, in wargaming) may or may not want to wander into!
I was wondering about painting liquids, because I want to make little streams of oil on some of my miniatures, which are curently coming in the mail. I have the Woodland Scenic Realistic Water, and Water Effects. I'm thinking that I can mix those with my Reaper paints, or my Acrylic Inks and possibly get a liquid that looks like used motor oil. From what I remember, and looking on the interwebs it's a very deep brownish, black with red tones.
I got an Xbox One for Christmas! I will likely set it up sometime tomorrow.
It is the 1TB version that comes with Fallout 3 & 4.
Any tips on setting it up and whatnot would be welcomed. Also, gamer tags, or IDs or whatever they are called would be nice to add people.
Suggestions on cheap games that are must-haves (and maybe a good one for my wife to play with me, plus one for the kids [2 and 5] to get involved with until we get a Kinect).
Thanks guys!
You may think by the title of this thread that I'm talking about numbers, but it's more than just that. I'm talking about goals for the New Year that we each personally have for the hobby.
Things such as:
For me, I'd like to try to get more figures painted this year than previous years, I'd like to complete at least 3 or 4 dioramas, work on bigger figures in the 54mm and 72mm ranges. I'd like to refine my skin tones, enter some online contests and then attend ReaperCon next October and try to get Silver or Gold for my entries. There are a few figures I've seen around which I wouldn't mind acquiring and painting, but mostly I'd just like to continue to learn the craft and grow as an artist.
How about you?
Well the New Year gets me thinking of years past and things to do in the coming year. So I think it is high time that we resurrect the New England Paint Day.
For those of you unfamiliar with the New England Paint Day, it is a get together of like minded individuals; to paint, share techniques and to just have a plain old good time.
On to the debate. As this is a New England Paint Day, we have to figure out the location. In the past, they have been hosted by individual painters and at game stores. I can set up a time with Pat at my FLGS (Citadel Games Cellar in Groton CT) or I can host at my house depending on the number of people. For those who were at the last CT paint day, the Citadel has moved down the street to a new location and has much better lighting this time around.
I am open to other locations if it is more convenient for the majority; someone else would just have to step up and procure a location. Right now I should be good for most weekends up until April.
So, who's interested?
Just putting this out there as I forgot about it until it was too late last year.
For those who want to give a competition a shot, Battle Cry will be held in April (at the Manchester, CT Battlestandard I assume, but they did open an Auburn, MA location last year).
There are several different categories, detail in the link. There is a fee to enter $10 first fig, $5 each additional entry. Best in Show qualifies for the Crystal Brush. I may just go to look at the entries.
They haven't released the actual date yet, I just wanted to put it out there so if someone wanted to paint something for the competition, they would have time.
